Terry Barratt shares his story of becoming one of the first NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service rangers.

I wanted to do something that I really believed in and had a purpose to it.
In 1966 Jack actually finally offered me the position of Ranger.
We were about to start off on this big adventure of the first professional National Parks and Wildlife Service in Australia.
Suddenly we had a uniform, a National Parks and Wildlife Service national parks and wlidlife service insignia on our shoulders with the lyrebird.
I can remember us all being photographed together.
We weren’t thinking so much as that it would be a career, it was just going to be a way of life and in fact, for the last fifty years it has been a way of life.
